European Commission Approves Sony’s Takeover of Sony Ericsson

October 27 was the day we've heard official wording that Sony is preparing to buy Ericsson's share in the joint venture, after a decade-long run. We later heard plans from the Japanese company according to which the rebranding and phasing out of Sony Ericsson will be made by mid-2012 .

  • Sony announced the takeover of the Ericsson-owned half of the Sony Ericsson joint venture at the end of October and, while the brand will be phased out until mid-2012 , questions were surfacing regarding a possible retreat of Sony to Japan. Thankfully this isn't the case as the company is preparing to move its London-based headquarters to Lund, Sweden.
