  • Verizon Wireless today announced a new version of the V Cast Music application for its Android devices. The new application puts all of Verizon's music-based content in one spot, including full song downloads, ringback tones and ringtones. Full song purchases will range in price from $0.69 to $1.29, and will be MP3 files that are free of DRM (digital rights management). Verizon said that it will package multiple versions of the same song (track plus ringtone, etc.) in reduced-cost bundles.

The software also lets users see their recent activity across devices, look at what music is topping the charts and/or what their friends are listening to, as well as create playlists and transfer the listening experience from desktop to mobile. Rdio costs $9.99 per month and can be billied directly to user wireless accounts.

  • Yap today announced a new application available to Android handsets on the AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless networks that transcribes voicemails into text. The text can be delivered via SMS or email. The Yap Voicemail application integrates with the native Android SMS and email programs, and users can respond to voicemails via text message or email.   • Owners of the HTC Droid Incredible will see a software update next week that will add Verizon Wireless' V Cast Apps store to the device. The V Cast Apps store is Verizon's own app storefront, and it offers a mix of exclusive apps, like V Cast tones and V Cast video, as well as apps from third-party developers who worked with Verizon Wireless on app approval. Developers may also sell their apps on the Google App Market, but Verizon Wireless and Google each have a distinct approval process.

  • Verizon Wireless today announced the addition of a new subscription movie service to its V CAST Video offering. The service, which is provided by Crackle and offers content from Sony Pictures, costs $6 per month on top of the $10 V CAST Video subscription and necessary data package. According to Verizon, Crackle's library includes action, comedy, drama, and science fiction movies. There will be 19 movies available at launch, with two new movies added to the library each month. It is available to all V CAST-capable phones, and select BlackBerries and select Android devices.

  • Video chat company ooVoo today announced a forthcoming application for Apple's iOS devices that will allow them to conduct video chats with users of Android smartphones as well as Apple and Windows computers. ooVoo's software is capable of creating a 6-way video chat and it works via Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G. ooVoo said it expects its iOS application to become available in April. It is already available for Android handsets and desktops.

  • Muvee Device Solutions Group recently made new software available to Android handsets that will allow users to edit uncompressed HD 3D video content directly on the handset. Editing compressed video files is made possible by muvee's CODEN (Compressed Domain Editing Engine) technology, which bypasses the need to decompress video before making basic edits. The muvee application supports video editing on 2D and 3D content at 720p HD. This software is not available to individual customers. Rather, it needs to be integrated into handsets by the manufacturer and carrier.
