More on Windows Phone 7
Despite the fact that Microsoft just killed the Kin phone, doesn’t mean that they are not in the phone business or trying to get in. This week, at the Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft has been talking about Windows Phone 7 and shared some new details on WP7.

At the PC level, Windows Phone 7 will connect with Zune software through Wi-Fi to access and manage video, music, high-resolution photos and other large file content. Zune is an entertainment platform and portable media player. It has a software platform with products designed and marketed by Microsoft. They will include the Zune Social, Zune Marketplace Software, Windows 7 Media Center (Podcasts only) and Xbox 360 (TV & Movies).
Microsoft has a variety of new services in store for the Windows Phone 7. For starters, it wlll extend the phone to the Web. The new Windows Phone Live site will give people the ability to publish pictures automatically, to sync Windows Live contacts, to publish OneNote plus other information from the phone up to the Web. The site will also host a Find My Phone service. This will allow users to find and manage a missing phone with ring, map, lock and erase capabilities right from their PC at no cost. It will also provide a push notification service. This design will let applications prepare and deliver real time updates to the phone through the Start screen tiles that dynamically change with new information.
On the Web, Microsoft customers will be able to take advantage of the phone’s integration with web-based email and calendaring. A host of software opportunities will make this possible. These include Windows Live, Exchange, Gmail and other products. The Web hosts the Zune Marketplace of music and videos plus the Xbox Live content.
Looking at these developments, with a slow and steady pace, Microsoft may be an the right track to not rush to market a product that may not be ready for prime time. The lesson of the Apple iPhone 4 may be in their mind: get it right the first time.

According to the Zune Insider podcast via Paul Thurrott’s Windows Phone Secrets blog, Microsoft is working or planning to port some of the Zune HD apps over to the Windows Phone platform.
It’s been expected for some time and following the integration of Zune services into Windows Phone, Microsoft has finally pulled the plug on its Zune hardware media players.
The first advertisement for Windows Phone 7 has emerged, this one on YouTube on the WindowsPhoneUK channel. The advert that the site says was shown at a secret cinema screening and is not for television, shows a Windows Phone 7 device appearing in a desert as a mirage.
I’ve been trying to get Microsoft to make a statement on this issue for three months now and I’m not the only one. The highly respected blogger Mary-Jo Foley, who has been a great help to me on this, has been trying to get an answer out of Microsoft even longer and she hasn’t succeeded either.
